Start the readiness assessment
Readiness assessment

Is your project ready for green building certification?

A few minutes now can save months later. Tell us about your building, your team and your goals, and we’ll show you where you stand on the path to certification and what it would take. Work through the four steps in order; the more complete your answers, the more useful our feedback.

Your progress 0 of 31 questions answered
Step 1 of 4 Your building
Enter a single year, such as 2025. For a project still in planning, use the year you expect it to be finished, or leave it blank.
Choose the use that covers most of the floor area.
Include all enclosed floors. A rough figure is fine.
Step 2 of 4 Your team and appetite

How ready your organization is to take this on.

What do these options mean?
  • Tight: We could add less than 5% to the project budget.
  • Some: We could add roughly 5% to 10%.
  • Generous: We could add roughly 10% to 20%.
What do these options mean?
  • Committed: We’ve chosen a certification, and the team, budget and key design decisions are in place to achieve it.
  • Exploring: We’re weighing up certification, but haven’t committed resources yet.
  • Not started: Certification hasn’t been on the table until now.
What do these options mean?
  • Early planning or feasibility: You’re still setting goals, scope, budget and feasibility.
  • Concept design: Design ideas are taking shape and you’re checking regulatory requirements.
  • Permit drawings: Plans are partly complete and submitted for permits and approvals.
  • Construction documents: Detailed drawings and specifications are ready for tender.
  • Under construction: Work on site has started.
What do these options mean?
  • New to it: No one on the team has worked on a certified project.
  • Know the basics: The team understands the main concepts.
  • Some hands-on exposure: One or more people have contributed to a certification project.
  • Have certified a project: The team has taken at least one project through to certification.
  • Have certified several: The team has a track record across multiple certified projects.
How much does each of these matter to your organization? Rate each one on its own; it’s fine for several to matter a lot.
Your environmental, social and governance goals, such as emissions targets, community expectations and responsible management.
What do these options mean?
  • Not important: It won’t influence our decisions.
  • Nice to have: Worth considering, but not a driver.
  • Important: One of several factors we’ll weigh.
  • Very important: A major driver of our decisions.
  • Essential: The deciding factor.
How the project shapes the way clients, tenants and the market see you.
Lower energy, water, waste and maintenance costs over the life of the building.
Keeping construction or renovation spending within what’s been approved.
Finishes, indoor environment, comfort and the health of the people who use the space.
Step 3 of 4 Your energy picture

Where your building’s energy comes from today, and where you want it to go.

If you’re not sure, choose Yes.
What do these options mean?
  • Fossil fuels: For example natural gas, heating oil, diesel, propane or coal.
  • Biofuels: For example biomass, biogas, renewable natural gas or wood.
Step 4 of 4 What you’re planning

Tell us which measures are on the table. “Not at this stage” is a perfectly good answer.

Materials, waste and water
Energy
Health, comfort and operations
