The CDC recommends people complete 30 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity five days a week. This can be anything from brisk walking, biking to work, yoga, playing Frisbee or doubles tennis, to water aerobics. ⁠

We are delighted to be working with Vendure Retirement Communities as they embark on WELL Building Certification for their newest Senior Care project.⁠
⁠
Located in Nelson BC, this project consists of five commercial, residential-style development care facilities, offering 125 spacious, well-appointed suites, in one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and studio layouts, and includes five Commercial Units with street frontage.⁠
⁠
The intention of the WELL Standard is to provide a path for designing a building that supports wellness through a performance-based certification system that marries best practices in design and construction, with evidence-based medical and scientific research. ⁠
⁠
Now, more than ever, our societies can do better for our seniors, and senior living facilities have a chance to lead the way. By implementing these standards Vendure is making a bold statement that people are at the center of this design.

Did You Know?

Reduced exposure to light has been linked to the onset of depression and impairment of cognitive function in individuals. On the contrary, light exposure during the daytime has been linked to increases in productivity and sleep quality, as well as a reduction in symptoms of depression in individuals.

Providing indoor access to adequate light can positively influence the productivity and mood of individuals while supporting the alignment of their circadian rhythms with the natural day-night cycle. Access to appropriate levels of light in indoor environments can be achieved through building design, façade design, space layout, and lighting design. Windows, atriums, and skylights are design features that can be utilized to increase daylight in a space.

If you are considering certifying your space or simply want to incorporate eco-verified products and materials into your design, understanding the game of Eco-labels can be daunting. Karen Righthand, vice president of corporate sales and marketing for SCS Global, suggests focusing on “the big four,” when it comes to material ingredients: ⁠
⁠
🍃A wood product should have some kind of sustainable forestry certification—chain of custody for Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) or Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC). ⁠
⁠
🍃Interior products should have an indoor air quality certification such as SCS’ Indoor Advantage Gold, which includes furniture, carpeting, window, wallcoverings, paint, and flooring. ⁠
⁠
🍃Products with verified (EPDs) Eligible Environmental Product Declaration ⁠
⁠
🍃Products with material ingredient disclosures such as a Health Product Declarations HPD, the Declare label, or Cradle to Cradle reports. ⁠
